Volunteer Opportunities






Stroke Clinic dates are set:   If you need a refresher course or are going for the first
time th
is clinic is very informative.   All the volunteers who would like to be a stroke judge
will need to take one of these clinics
 once every two years.  

First Clinic will be May 15 at 10am, the meeting will be held at the Twin Creeks
Country Club in the building next to the pool on the main floor.


Second Clinic will be May 20 at 7pm also held in the Twin Creeks Country Club.



Parent Involvement:  In order to run an efficient swim club, parent involvement is
necessary.  Parent interest and reliability are the only qualifications for most meet
jobs.  One family rep is expected to volunteer.  We appreciate your involvement
and  hope you will find this a unique opportunity to be involved meaningful working
relationship with the simmers, coaches, and other members of the FAST TEAM.

  • Computer Operator 25 yd : Enters times and scores during the meet.  Prepares
    printout for ribbons personnel.

  • Runners 25 yd: Responsible for collecting completed event cards and DQ forms
    from the timers and judges and delivering them to the computer operator.   

  • Concessions Committee & Boutique: The concession person will be responsible
    for Friday night set up of the concession stand.  He/She will plan and purchase food
    and drinks for the meet.  After the meet, he will break down the stand, count
    proceeds, and give to the treasurer.  Lead and 3-4 helpers

  • Parent Committee: The purpose of this committee of this committee is to provide
    support to the swim team.  An objective of the parent committee is to help provide
    the children with the opportunity to excel in competitive swimming.  The parent
    committee shall be intent upon helping foster the enjoyment of a competitive
    swimming environment. They shall  administer the swim team program so that the
    coaches can devote their full attention to teaching and coaching.  

  • Scoring 25 yd:  Assists the computer operator.  Responsible for double checking
    the scoring printouts for accuracy.  Also, responsible for posting the results.

  • Awards/Ribbons:  Responsible for getting the ribbons ready after each event.  
    Placing the awards labels on each ribbon.  Organize ribbons by child and age
    group so that they can be given to the kids on the Monday (swim practice) after the
    meet.  

  • Lane Timers- 25 yd:  The timer records a time of the swimmer in the lane to which
    they are assigned using a stopwatch and a plunger (pickle).  The pickle time is
    used only if the swimmer fails to touch the timing pad. In the event the pickle does
    not work then you use the stopwatch.  The timer writes the time on the  heat sheet
    at the end of the event as a backup copy.   

  • Ready Bench – 25 yd:  They are the key to keeping the meet on schedule.  They
    organize the swimmers into heats before the start of each event.  Swimmers must
    arrive at the ready bench for their event.  Ready bench workers must:
  • Verify each swimmer or relay team is on the heat sheet (i.e. with their name,
    correct event, heat, and lane) for the event coming up.
  • Check their copy of the official heat sheet to verify that all swimmers on the
    list are present.  Notify the age group parents of any missing swimmers, and
    notify the Meet Director of any swimmers not on the official heat sheet.
  • Arrange the swimmers from both teams into individuals heats.   

  • Age Group Parent:  The Age Group Parent receives a heat sheet for their age
    swimmers.  They find the swimmers. The Age Group Parent also reports anyone
    absent to the Meet Director before the start of the meet.  Age Group Parents for the
    younger swimmers may escort them to the ready bench for each event to prevent
    them from getting lost.  Two Age Group Parents are needed for each of the
    following groups:
  • 6 & Under Girls                        
  • 6 & Under Boys  
  • 7 & Under Girls    
  • 7 & Under Boys  
  • 8 & Under Girls   
  • 8 & Under Boys     
  • 9 & Under Girls
  • 9 & Under Boys
  • 10 & Under Girls
  • 10 & Under Boys
  • 11 & Under Girls
  • 11 & Under Boys
  • 12 & Under Boys
  • 12 & Under Girls
  • 14 - 18 & Under Boys
  • 14 - 18 & Under Girls

  • Zoo Keeper:  The person(s) relieves the AGP (who are through with the meet)
    from the responsibilities of watching the children whose parents are still working the
    8 & under pool.  The zoo keeper baby sits the children until the parents are through
    with their duties. This person needs be someone who has an 9 & up swimmer still
    swimming the meet.

  • FLOATER:  The person(s) is capable of filling in wherever there is a need to make
    the meet run smoothly.  This person can fill in various positions during the meet ie.
    help as an AGP or assist new AGPs, console or computer, announcer, ready
    bench, timer.

  • Host Team Marshall (Male & Female):  The Marshall will check the locker rooms
    they are assigned.  The Marshall will make sure that everyone who is on the swim
    deck is supposed to be there (no parents are allowed on deck unless they have a
    volunteer position).  They will watch all teams’ behavior, pass out hospitality items if
    available.

  • Rescue Volunteers- 25 yd:  The Rescue volunteer will pull all age group
    swimmers out of the water.  They will need to be able to bend down by the pool and
    pull the swimmers out of the pool.

  • Announcer/Starter-25 yd:  Starts each event with the announcement of the age
    and stroke and the words "SWIMMERS TAKE YOUR MARK", pauses to make sure
    that all swimmers are motionless, and then gives an electronic sound. He shall be
    the sole judge of FALSE STARTS and all false starts shall be restarted. The Starter
    signals a false start with repeated blasts from the starting device. Also, as an
    announcer is responsible for calling the event number, age group, sex, and event
    name so that the swimmers will know when to report to the ready bench. The
    announcer calls the "first" and later the "final" call for each age group pair of events
    in coordination with the flow of the ready bench. The announcer will need to
    anticipate based on the number of swimmers, the stroke, the number of lengths to  
    swim, and the age of the swimmers.

  • Stroke/Turn Judges:  They work in pairs on each side of the pool with one
    member of a pair being from each team. Judges only rule on infractions on their
    side of the pool. They observe strokes, turns, and finishes to see that swimmers
    comply with requirements for that stroke.  The judges must fill out a DQ form to be
    given to the computer person.

  • Social/Spirit Director: These Volunteers will organize team pictures, pep rallies,
    afternoon movies, Round Rock Express baseball game, and other motivational
    activities for the swimmers.  

  • Awards Ceremony Committee:  This committee is responsible for putting
    together the end of the season award party.  The committee will be in charge of the
    decorations, food and drink and set up for the night.  

  • Historian:  Person(s) responsible for taking pictures and making a scrapbook of
    the swim team through out the summer swim season each year to preserve the
    precious moments of the swimmers.

  • Web Site Coordinator:  Person(s) responsible for updating the team website with
    team information, meet results, pictures, etc.
